About us
Moroccan rugs are a beautiful fusion of tradition and artistry. With their captivating imperfections, bold geometric patterns, and soulful designs, these rugs have a unique ability to draw the eye and stir the imagination. Each piece tells a story, one woven through generations of skilled artisans who have perfected their craft over centuries. Handcrafted by Amazigh tribes across North Africa and the Sahara, these traditional Moroccan rugs (often known as Amazigh rugs) feature intricate patterns and symbols passed down through the ages. The beauty of these designs lies in their raw authenticity, they are born from the hands of self-taught weavers who pour their heart and soul into every knot.

Founder's Note
A quiet force shapes Atelier Azel. Its founder was born in Morocco, into a family where craft and tradition were simply part of life. Years spent in the UAE deepened that connection to design, to culture, to the way objects carry meaning across borders. Moroccan rugs appeared everywhere: in design books, in refined interiors, in conversations about taste and style. Yet they were rarely given the place they deserved. Admired, yes. Truly seen, rarely. Behind every rug is something worth understanding. The complexity of the technique. The patience of the process. The women whose skill and time bring each piece to life. Atelier Azel was created to change that. To bring ancestral craftsmanship into conversation with contemporary expression. And to place Moroccan rugs exactly where they belong — at the centre. Valued, respected, and seen.

Our vision
Every Atelier Azel piece begins with a relationship. We work directly with Fair Trade producers in Morocco, artisans whose knowledge has been passed through generations, whose hands carry techniques that no machine can replicate. Fair wages, better conditions, and long-term care for the people behind every thread are not afterthoughts. They are the foundation. We honour Morocco's weaving heritage not by preserving it under glass, but by keeping it alive. Our limited editions bring traditional craft into conversation with contemporary creativity through collaborations with Middle Eastern artists, two worlds of making, in dialogue. Through our Every Thread Counts initiative, every purchase does more than bring a rug into your home. It helps sustain a cultural craft, uplift the communities that carry it, and affirm that traditional weaving is and always has been a form of art.
