About us
Moroccan rugs are a beautiful fusion of tradition and artistry. With their captivating imperfections, bold geometric patterns, and soulful designs, these rugs have a unique ability to draw the eye and stir the imagination. Each piece tells a story, one woven through generations of skilled artisans who have perfected their craft over centuries. Handcrafted by Amazigh tribes across North Africa and the Sahara, these traditional Moroccan rugs (often known as Amazigh rugs) feature intricate patterns and symbols passed down through the ages. The beauty of these designs lies in their raw authenticity, they are born from the hands of self-taught weavers who pour their heart and soul into every knot.

Founder's Note
A quiet force shapes Atelier Azel. Its founder was born in Morocco to a humble family rooted in craft and tradition, then spent much of life in the UAE, a place that broadened their connection to design and culture. Over the years, Moroccan rugs appeared constantly in their world on pages of design books, in refined interiors, in global conversations about style. Yet they were often treated as supporting elements, not as the artworks they are. The founder saw the depth behind each piece: the complexity of the techniques, the patience of the process, and the women whose skill and time bring every rug to life. Atelier Azel was created to shift the narrative. It merges ancestral craftsmanship with contemporary artistic expression and positions Moroccan rugs where they belong in the center, valued, respected, and seen.

Our vision
Every Atelier Azel piece is created through direct partnerships with Fair Trade producers in Morocco. Each rug supports the artisans who weave it and the communities that sustain this craft. Our work centers on better conditions, fair wages, and long-term care for the people behind every thread. We honor Morocco’s weaving heritage by working with skilled artisans who carry techniques passed through generations. Their knowledge shapes each rug. Our limited editions bring this tradition into dialogue with contemporary creativity through select collaborations with Middle Eastern artists. Through our Every Thread Counts initiative, your purchase helps preserve a cultural craft, uplifts local communities, and supports a future where traditional weaving holds its place as a form of art.
